The Information Resources Administration in Texas said that the data systems in 23 Texas cities were hit by a massive ransomware attack on August 16th and Its data were taken hostage.

It is not clear whether computer systems in the affected towns have adequate security procedures or whether they have backup copies of their data, it is also unclear whether any services are disabled.

The attackers keep the hacked data for a ransom of around $2 million in bitcoin, the alternative to paying a ransom and the solution to this crisis is to restore each city to backup data  if it exists.

The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) revealed only a little information about the attacks and confirmed in its statements that Texas state systems were not a part of the attacks.
